The Shortz! Film Festival is an annual international short film festival in Chico, California showcasing the best and brightest short films from around the globe. The festival accepts and screens short films with running times of 30 minutes or less in any genre.

Created by local filmmakers from Chico, California, Shortz! was started with the desire to bring film makers together in a fun and funky environment, to meet and network with the ultimate goal of producing more films.

It is with a heavy heart and much deliberation that we have decided to put the festival on hiatus until further notice.

Videomaker Magazine sponsors the Shortz Film Fest!

The Shortz Film Fest coordinators are proud to announce that Videomaker Magazine has sponsored our 2012 Festival.

Videomaker Magazine has been around since 1985 and is the brain child of Matt York.  In his own words, Matt created Videomaker Magazine “To help others achieve their pursuits by using video as a common communications medium. We picture a world where people use video cameras as regularly as they use ink pens, keyboards, cameras, email, texts, printers and blogs to communicate thoughts, ideas and concepts."  Matts' love for video goes back to the days of “Super 8” film and through Videomaker Magazine he keeps his subscribers up to date with modern technology through how-to tutorials, equipment and software reviews, and insights and tips into production, distribution, and so much more.  A quick look at the Videomaker website and any filmmaker can see that this magazine and website are valuable resources.

Please welcome Matt and Videomaker Magazine by dropping by the website, and say the Shortz Film Fest sent you.

Shortz Film Fest is at the El Rey Theater!

In case you haven't heard, the Shortz Film Fest is going to be at the beautiful El Rey Theater in Downtown Chico. This is a real treat for those of us who grew up in Chico.  I saw my first Star Wars movie in this theater.   This is the perfect venue for the Shortz Film Fest, with plenty of seating, a large screen, with an excellent blueray projector and an incredible sound system.  The El Rey is right downtown Chico, it is close to several restaurants within easy walking distance, and plenty of parking.  All of the members of the Shortz Film Fest planning committee are very proud to be presenting the film fest in this beautiful theater.  Put a note on your calendar to not miss this years Short Film Fest, August 25th and 26th.
