The Fun Sized Film Fest

ST. George Spirits

Since it was founded, thirty-two years ago by Jorg Rupf , St. George Spirits has grown from a one man operation, with a bare bones production facility jerry-rigged on saw horses, to a 65,000 square-foot hanger space, with a tasting room, laboratory, and line up of the most beautiful pot stills you may ever see. The people at St. George Spirits are linked by their passion for both the art and craft of distillation—and their desire to say something new through the language of distillery. St. George Spirits was the first distillery in the United States to legally produce Absinthe after the U.S. ban was lifted in 2007. They have a main line of Gins and they also distil Bourbon, Single Malt Whiskey, Rum, Fruit Brandies, Fruit Liqueurs, Coffee Liqueur, and other Kindered Spirits, all of them superb. Some of the Shortz! Film Festival coordinators took a trip down to Alameda to visit the St. George Spirits distillery, in May of this year, and we had a blast. The Distillery is housed in an old air-plane hanger on the vacated Alameda Naval Air Station, The tasting tour was highly entertaining and educational, and well worth the $15.00 price tag. The next time you visit the San Francisco bay area, plan on stopping by, you'll be glad you did.
